Nerd Girl- Attack!

The boy has started playing World of War Craft.

I'll call him up to hear is crackling no-sleep voice greet me.

"You were playing your game again - weren't you?"

Sheepish and sleepily I hear, "yeah"

My sister has recently become a gaming widow. She's lost her husband to Kingdom Hearts. She says, "It's an old game, but he's just discovered it again after not playing it in a long time - so I have not seen him a few days." Yes just the spectre of his form his seated on the couch - thumbs blazing.

However - she and I game too - so we understand, and let it pass. Though admitedly neither of us has been that engrossed in a game to forsake showers, sleep, and food until exhaustion kicks in and our forheads slam into the pause button.

On the phone I hear her ask him if he would like to talk to me. There is a muffled noise on the phone line. Then I hear her: "Put it on pause for five minutes - christ!"

More muffled jostling of phone...

"Yahone - I'm lookin for a shard! I've been looking everywhere!"

The language I understand. Being so engrossed in a quest game, you start thinking about it even when you're not playing. Green Christmas lights look like "Rupees". You plan the best way to power your character up before you go back in to the final boss so you don't get your ass handed to you again.

I think I might have to go back to Gameer Anonymous.

"Hello my name is Joanna, and I have a gamed before."

"Hi Joanna!"

"It's been three months since my last intense gaming. My last game of choice was the Sims2, before that it was Alice, and before that I dusted off the N64 to play some Zelda - just because I needed a fix real bad one day. *gasps of disgust from crowd* I lost a couple weeks of my life to that one real dark patch...I...I created another character...just so I could start all over again...but I didn't delete my orginal one- oh god no! Anyone touches that one...well...I dare not think how I might snap..."

The Boy just wanted to show me World of War Craft. I am not much of a PC gamer - but way back in the day I played briefly some War Craft with a friend. I am also not really an on-line gamer. I've never done it before.

I was intrigued by the game. It seemed really indepth and involved. Lots to choose, lots of things to be...many skills and levels to attain.

And then like any true dealer, The Boy said - "Do you want to make a character? You don't have to play if you don't want..."

I sat down - just making a character couldn't hurt me. I LOVE making characters. Put of my joy in the Sims was just making characters. I get a sick thrill - it's like building your own Barbie. When a character starts getting boring or I get stuck - I can just go make a fresh one. A BETTER ONE! With better aspirations, skills, and prettier clothes.

I was drawn to the undead. Plus when The Boy told me I could have a demon mignion if I was a warlock- well - my Bible trained concience told me - FUCK YEAH DUDE!

I picked her hair and skin color carefully. She has an impish face, with full pouty lips - and only the faintest sign of decay...I had named her - and it was complete.

"ENTER" flashed across the screen. Like a dope fiend I just clicked on it - without even thinking.

It had begun.

My name is Medela, I'm a level 5 warlock, I know three spells, I can canabalize corpses, and I'm on a mission to find Sid Phelps, kill him, and bury his remains with his bride Marla.

Oh man am I going to get crusty playing this game.
