How did I brain this? It was easy really. I watch way too many paranormal investigation shows, travel documentaries, and shows about mediums. I've always wanted to investigate paranormal stuff. Why? I dunno, that might be a blog entry all of it's own. The point is, I have expendable income because I have no children and impulse bought a K2 meter. And goddamnit, I am going to use it before I die.

These are like candy to ghosts, apparently. |
So I've always wanted to go to the Myrtles Plantation, ever since I probably first saw it on Unsolved Mysteries. Ok I have no recollection that Unsolved Mysteries ever did an episode on Myrtles, but let's just say it's been many ages that I have longed to go here. (Holy crap, apparently they did do an episode on this place.) It seemed cool to me that you could stay in a purportedly haunted place. Even though most research says - this place is probably not haunted and the "history" you get there is most likely fabricated...it's still freaking cool. (I think I just liked to be spooked. After the initial scream and pants-wetting, there is much boisterous and nervous laughter). So as a kid, with no expendable income - I was like - how the hell do I get to a haunted plantation in Louisiana?
Then later, I came across Villisca Iowa. Google it. And was intrigued. Then came the explosion of paranormal shows (some better than others) and oh god, it's a train wreck I can't look away. Iowa seemed within the realm of possibility.
I am a slow processor and it just dawned on me this year that with my expendable income, I could travel to haunted places and stay in them. I am a grown-ass woman who likes ghost stories. AND HAS EXPENDABLE INCOME! So I've been marinating on this plan for a long time. This year, the pieces finally fell into place.
I knew I could not road trip alone, and needed Gabe's buy-in. Thus Ghosts and BBQ was born. It's hard to tell by looking at us, but we are lovers of all things pork and awesome. If Gabe wrestles the remote away from me to watch something other than paranormal shows, it's probably something on the travel channel or food network about where to find the world's largest burger, or tastiest bacon malt. So for our household; road trips, food, and ghost hunting all naturally blend together. Like peanut butter, jelly, and marshmallow fluff. What? You know it's probably already a thing, and Guy Fieri is french kissing one in some greasy bar in Tennessee, these things just have a way of happening.
So are we going to Villisca or Myrtles?
Nope.
You'll have to tune in to the next posts in order to find out.
Or I guess just go ask Gabe. That guy can't keep his mouth shut for nuthin'.
16 days to launch.
