State of my union

In his State of the Union Address, President Bush described the state of our Union as confident and strong - the U.S. economy is growing steadily, more Americans are finding jobs, and our Nation is serving as an active force for good in the world.

HA!

What a great presence of mind to be in to believe that if you say something often enough - it makes it true. HA! DOUBLE HA! Although perhaps with the seal of the president rubber stamped on your underwear maybe it gives you a Pope-like quality that allows you to will your idea of reality on the rest of the world.

Apparently we need to be celebrating. While I agree - we are in sad and stressful times, I don't usually answer my bouts with depression, fear, and short funds, by throwing a multi-million dollar gala. Call me old fashioned!

In his state of the union address presidente busholio outlined his plan to stop seniors from bleeding the economy dry by using them instead as a source of fuel. It is rewnewable - but the smell of burning polyester is not pretty. But progress must be made.

He wants to give Americans ownership over their retirement. Last I checked I still had the right to invest my money where and however I wanted - while still being able to count on social security in my moldy golden years.

"Ownership" is wonderful term psychologists and educators like to use to. We instill those within our power and leadership with a feeling of "ownership". However - it is merely a feeling, because while I want my students to take "ownership" of their work - I am still the final authority. It just makes the minions have a better work eithic if they feel like they matter. Whether or not they do - is debatable.

It just bugs the hell out of me when I look at people like my parents. Sure they were duped into thinking the world would end in 1995 - therefore, why plan for retirement...however, that and my father's teacher's retirement will be all they have to live on because they planned poorly. I'm pretty sure people outside the creepy cult have not made reitrement planning a top priority either. So poor planners should be left in the dust. It's a strong American setiment to say "I take cares of me and mine" (best if said through one tooth and with a mullet). This is a great sentiment. I believe in hard-work, good planning, and not being wild and having a devil may care attitude about my life decisions. However, I think there are a whole lot of people who do work and who do plan that have bad situations happen to them so they cannot take care of themselves despite their best intentions and plans. Ah liberal - mine heart bleeds blue donkeys.

During his campaign Bush talked about education reform. He finds his plan of no child left behind to be a wild success. And in all fairness no child will be left behind. Yesterday the president outlined a plan to make sure to include urban minority children in the fine education that their white suburban counterparts enjoy. He will do this by building playgrounds out of the minority children for the suburban kids to enjoy at their leisure, between lunch and the afternoon session of school.

But on the plus side - Iraqis have freedom! They live in rubble, could meet with a car bomb at moment, and that whole electricity and food thing is about as consistant as Whitney Houstons trips to reality...but they are free.

KICK ASS!!
