Gabe Smash

Yesterday was Gabe's birthday. Not a big deal birthday, and it was on a Tuesday, so we kept it very low-key. BBQ from his favorite restaurant, and a birthday card from me. (More merry-making to come this weekend).

I picked my card for two reasons:
1) The dog on the front kind of looked like Kotter.
2)  It said, "Don't let another birthday mess with your head" -- and then it was glued shut, and on the back of the card it said, "That's my job!".

I think it works on two levels - one, I am always irritating him, usually on purpose but sometimes you just luck into that stuff, and two it makes it seem like the dog and I are in cahoots. Which we are.

I left the card in my bathroom, knowing he only goes in there before bed - and would get it even if I passed out before him. Last night I passed out before him.

This morning I wake up, and he has already left for work. I go in my bathroom and find the card open and propped on my sink. Not just the envelope. The card that was previously glued together as part of the clever birthday humor that only Hallmark can provide is also open like a normal birthday card.

I see two possible scenarios in my head. He read it, got the joke, but then decided, "You don't tell me what to do woman!" and ripped open the card in defiance. OR, he didn't get the joke and Gabe SMASH'ed it open.

I send him a message at work via IM to ask him if he opened the card out of spite, or if he didn't get the joke and smashed it open.
